Often, when we think about cancer, sad and dark images overwhelm us. Especially these days, when Quebec pays tribute to Karl Tremblay, of the Cowboys Fringants, who died of prostate cancer at the age of 47.

Today, we would like to tell you the story of Yves, who restores hope and confidence in our health system.

“First I must share with you how the disease has seriously affected my family. In 2012, my wife Myrianne was diagnosed with lung cancer. Thanks to advances in medicine, she was able to be with us for 10 beautiful years. However, in September 2022, despite her courage and love for life, she sadly left us. In the spring of 2023, while the pain of his loss was still raw, my urologist, Dr. Valdivieso, detected an abnormality during a routine exam.

After the biopsy, the diagnosis was made: prostate cancer. I was immediately taken care of, and Dr. Samer Hanna brilliantly performed a laparoscopic procedure on May 16, 2023. So, in the space of just a few weeks, I was diagnosed, treated, operated on and I sense in great shape.

We often hear about the shortcomings of our health system, but I can assure you that my recent experience at Cité-de-la-Santé confirms that our system can achieve great things for patients. As a native of Laval, I am proud to contribute to my Hospital and the CISSS de Laval which provided me with rapid and appropriate care, and which supported me throughout this journey.

Illness makes us aware of the importance of supporting our health system. At the heart of this system, there are exceptional, dedicated and professional people, who have allowed me to still hold my eight grandchildren in my arms today. »

For all people, like Yves, who are diagnosed with cancer.
To restore hope and continue research and deployment of EXCELLENCE in cancer care...
