I'm not your typical volunteer," explains Alain, when we met on a stormy evening on the Foundation's premises.
I got into this through a good friend of mine. I'm first and foremost a cycling lover, and this cause came to me. In my family of 5 children, including 4 sisters, this disease has knocked on our door on more than one occasion, and even took the life of my older sister Julie in 2023.
I consider myself very lucky to be healthy and active. This challenge is something we all do for those who need it and who are less fortunate than we are from a health point of view. For all these people, come rain or shine, we're going to ride and do the 300K challenge... For them and only for them, that's all!
My responsibility is to ensure the safety of each and every one of these cyclists, divided into four speed groups, to help them achieve their challenges in a fun atmosphere. I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by some fantastic and very dedicated coaches. The 300 Km organization team is also very committed and motivating. You feel that there's internal support and a will to act and succeed.
I admire all those who take up this challenge of more than 325 km in 2 days; it's a long and demanding journey, both physically and mentally. Many of these participants are not athletes, yet they will give their all for the cause and not for the race, and that's very inspiring and touching.
My reward is when a participant shakes my hand and says: "I've had a great weekend and I've succeeded in my challenge!

When we all stop before the final arrival at the Cité de la Santé and take a moment to reflect on all those we've lost, it's a very emotional moment and justifies all our efforts.
When we arrive, several members of our families are there to welcome us, and we feel a bit like heroes.....but the real heroes are those in the rooms of the building opposite us, where life is decided.My reward is when a participant shakes my hand and says: "I've had a great weekend and I've succeeded in my challenge!
